A Sunday Well Spent: Walks, Laughs & Legendary Sunday Lunch
What a day! Our Codbeck Reservoir countryside stroll and hearty Sunday lunch at The Crathorne Arms turned into an unforgettable afternoon packed with adventure, laughter, and some unexpected entertainment๐๐.
The Walk That Became an Obstacle Course
We set off with the best of intentions - a peaceful 1.5 to 2-hour walk, soaking in the beautiful Yorkshire scenery, enjoying great company, and getting some fresh air. And for the most part, that’s exactly what happened… until Corrine decided we needed “just a little extra stretch.” ๐๐๐
What followed was a masterclass in near-misses, where Lorna narrowly avoided hitting the deck approximately 1,456 times (a new personal best). Meanwhile, Stevie’s relaxed pace almost saw him become a permanent fixture at the caravan park waterfalls. Fortunately, our self-organised “search party” located him a mere five minutes behind us - turns out, he wasn’t lost, just taking in the views๐๐ซถ๐ผ.
Muddy Waters & Parking Lot Survival Tactics
The final challenge wasn’t part of the plan. Returning to the car park, we were faced with what can only be described as a swamp-level obstacle course. Some of us made it across with shoes intact. Some of us now own newly brown walking boots. All of us had a laugh watching each other attempt to navigate the muddy swimming pools standing between us and our well-earned Sunday lunch๐ท.
A Roast Fit for Champions
After conquering nature’s hurdles, we made our way to The Crathorne Arms, where we were greeted with a warm welcome, crackling log fires, and a menu that promised a feast. And a feast it was! The food was an absolute belter, and every bite was worth the walk. Special mention goes to Poppy the pooch, who had such impeccable table manners that she earned herself a well-deserved duo of meats.
But the real entertainment came after dessert…
The Great £5 Magic Trick
Enter Katie, our resident magician. After a mysterious disappearance of a fiver, Corinne and the team embarked on a 30-minute treasure hunt to find the missing note. Under tables, in bags, around the car park - everywhere was searched. Just as we were about to accept that the money had been lost to the Yorkshire countryside, Katie nonchalantly pulled it out of her sleeve like a pint-sized Paul Daniels!๐๐.
Coincidence? We think not. Scam? Very possible. Genius? Absolutely.
Singing, Banter & A Proper Good Day
From Stevie’s karaoke YouTube video to Colin’s top-tier usual cheek (all good fun), the day was full of laughs, great conversations, and top-notch company. It was amazing to meet some new faces and share an afternoon that had a little bit of everything - stunning views, unpredictable adventures, delicious food, and brilliant people.
Same Time Next Week?
If today proved anything, it’s that sometimes the best days out are the ones where nothing goes quite as planned. Thanks to everyone who joined, and if you missed this one, don’t worry - there’s always next time. Until then, keep your walking boots handy, your Sunday lunch cravings strong, and your fivers securely hidden from any budding magicians!
See you all soon for another adventure! ๐ถโ๏ธ๐ท๐
